On the 9th of June, Demoiselle was invited to the Christie Brown store. Though we couldn’t be present ourselves, our amazing rep Adjoa Akowuah (@ms_adj) went in our stead, along with photographer Charles Odartey (@s_tage). Here’s what she had to say:
The Christie Brown showroom in Osu, Ghana, hosted two hot up and coming Ghanaian designers on the 9th of June 2012. The designers showcased their various lines which received a warm reception from the invited guests and onlookers. They showcased their African heritage in beautiful designs.
The Joansu jewelry line by Adjoa showcased a fine combination of Africa and the western world. The various collections were inspired by travel from African prints captured in acrylic resin to gold in various forms. The line truly captured little pieces of various places.
The African Conversationists Joansu line was chosen to portray positivity in Africa. The jewelry pieces created some sort of conversation. The African print was embedded in acrylic resin and moulded into necklaces, earrings, rings and bangles, each piece had a meaning originating from the pattern on print used. The HH line had arrows on the print showing some fluidity and movement hence the name. Other pieces available represented butterflies, dreams etc .The bangles ranging from 75-100 dollars a piece are good investments for a fashionista. The La Lune line of Joansu was inspired by the streets of paris at night, the yellow street lights captured in gold moon shaped jewelry brought paris to your ear lobe. This line was my favourite oozing glamour and class just like the city paris itself.
The Mosaique shoe collection by Afua Dabanka saw a mixture of fine leather and African print in sophisticated and bold designs. Her line ranged from flats to 6 inch heels making a pair available to any woman depending on your style. The AYA fern seen on each shoe were used to symbolize her company’s true meaning; she wishes for the women wearing her shoes to always remember their perseverance, endurance and resourcefulness. The shoes with their cutting edge designs should be present in every womans closet.
